Lanzini back in training

West Ham star Manuel Lanzini returns to training as he steps up recovery from knee injury

West Ham midfielder Manuel Lanzini has returned to light training as he continues his recovery from the serious knee injury he suffered before the World Cup.

The 25-year-old playmaker joined in with first-team training for the first time yesterday.

Although the Argentina international is still some way off being ready for a comeback, his return to training is a major boost for Hammers boss Manuel Pellegrini.

Lanzini had surgery on his right knee in June after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament while training with Argentina on the eve of the World Cup.

Meanwhile, right-back Ryan Fredericks could return against AFC Wimbledon in the FA Cup on Saturday after more than two months out with a shin injury.

Wouldn't expect him to be the same player he was for quite a while.

ACL tear is quite a common injury in the NFL and in most cases the first season back for the guy he tends to look much slower and less agile but the season after that they are back to their best.

Yarmolenko, does anyone remember him?

I know this isn't the reality, but fuck it, im going to say it.

Imagine Anderson, Lanzini, Nasri, Wilshere & Yarmolenko all fit!!! There are some great fucking options there. Between them, they would tear most defences a new one!!!

Think about...keep thinking about it

Now back to reality. Fuck!!!!!

The surgery these days is light years ahead of what it was so hopefully he will be as good.
Don't expect to see him before mid March at the earliest

Think he will prefer the way Pellegrini wants to play

Bumbury - Yep, was thinking the same thing. Lanzini is definitely a player that has got better since his injury.

Devonshire adapted his game and was superb in 85/86. Will be gutted though if he can’t can’t get back to what he was although judging from the slating he was getting on here this time last year no doubt some are not that bothered.

Good news but it's rare that a player comes back 100% after this

Exactly my thoughts, Alan Devonshire had a similar injury in 1983/84 and was not quite the same player when he returned losing a little bit of pace that got him away from defenders. On the plus side the surgery involved in these injuries has moved on in 30 odd years so fingers crossed especially when he goes on on his first taclke and vice versa. Good luck Manuel.

Re: Lanzini back in training
The best part about all this is that we are in a position where we don’t need to rush him back. We can give him all the time needed a full recovery and see him get back to his best.

In the past we would patch them up in desperate need and then see them injured the following week.

The guy is mustard and we will see him mature into one of the best in the league.

best of luck to him and like everyone hope he can come back to the level he was, no point in rushing him after such a bad injury.

Didn't realise that about his contract. 3bmore years left. Lovely. They should get to business on upping his wage and putting pen to paper on a 5 year deal this summer.

Out of contract in the summer isn't he

I'd imagine it'll be the club holding off on the new deal, not Manu himself. It's a business now - much as I like the guy, there is no mileage in paying him shedloads of cash every week if it transpires he can no longer perform at this level / at all.
